What We Do
At Civic Innovations, as a non-partisan, charitable organization serving Southside Hampton Roads, we focus on making government easier to understand, more transparent, and more accessible to everyone.
We Bridge the Gap Between Citizens and Government and we believe everyone deserves a seat at the table. That’s why we help people navigate local and state government processes, understand legislation, and connect with the resources they need to make informed decisions about their lives and communities.
Through civic education programs, community outreach, and public forums, we give people the tools and knowledge they need to participate in democracy.Whether it’s learning how a bill becomes law, understanding where to vote, or finding out how to contact a representative, we’re here to guide every step of the way.
We Promote Participation
From hosting non-partisan forums and debates on important local issues to helping people register to vote in everyday spaces—not just political events—we create opportunities for meaningful involvement.
Our work especially focuses on reaching those who are often left out of the process: working families, underserved communities, and individuals who feel unheard by government.
We Provide Direct Assistance and help residents track down unclaimed property through the Virginia Treasury, provide one-on-one support with government-related challenges, and offer free policy research on issues that matter most to our communities.
When people bring concerns to us, we dig in and find answers—because no one should feel powerless in the face of bureaucracy.

We Listen—and Take Action
We don’t just talk about civic engagement—we act on it. By gathering input from citizens across the region, analyzing public policy, and sharing our findings in clear, accessible ways, we help amplify community voices and turn local concerns into real impact.
When people tell us what’s not working, we listen—and we work to make it better. Civic Innovations exists to serve the people of Southside Hampton Roads. Whether you’re trying to make sense of a confusing system, seeking answers to a government-related issue, or looking for ways to get involved, we’re here to help you find your voice—and use it.
We believe informed citizens are empowered citizens, and that true democracy happens when everyone has a seat at the table. Together we’re building a more informed, connected, and civically active Virginia—one conversation, one solution, and neighbor at a time.
