Policy Roundtable on Confidential Informants
Civic Innovations organized and hosted this event to facilitate a meaningful dialogue on the use of confidential informants in drug-related investigations by law enforcement agencies, discussing options to address the complexities associated with the use of confidential informants in this environment and the need to protect the individuals involved.
This meeting was private. Because the topics were sensitive, only important people like lawmakers and stakeholders were invited. This way, they could speak openly without worrying about any consequences.
- Topic:Â How to use confidential informants safely in drug investigations without putting them in danger.
- Participants:Â We talked about the current drug crisis and the problems police face. Former informants and their families shared their experiences. Lawmakers were also invited to join the discussion.
- Goal:Â The main aim was to create rules that protect informants while still allowing important investigations to continue effectively against drug trafficking.
Following the event, a comprehensive summary of the discussions and conclusions was distributed to all participants who attended, or could not and requested the information. The summary was provided to encourage further discussion and the potential for legislative or administrative actions.
